How To Cap Off Live Electrical Wires in Toronto
I’m here today to show you how to safely cap off a live electrical wire.
I just want to tell you that if you are not comfortable working with electrical wires or electricity then you should definitely consult an electrician in Toronto and have an electrician do this for you. But if you do feel comfortable working with electrical wires then you can follow the procedure that I am about to show you.
So, we are going to start by turning the power off to those wires alright.
Now that there is no power going to these wires we can safely and comfortably cap them off..
I want to apologize about the poor lighting I’m in the middle of doing a renovation and there aren’t any lights in this room just yet. So I’m just using this flashlight to sort of light the area behind it. If you take a look at the electrical wires you’ll notice that there are three wires, there is a white one which is the neutral a black one which is the hot wire or the power wire and then this uninsulated wire which is the ground.
I will be using these wire nuts or some you know some people call them Moretz to cap off each of these three wires individually.
Just going to hold them under the flashlight so you can see make sure that the wire nuts that you are using are the appropriate size for the wires themselves.
I’m just going to twist on these three wire nuts on those three wires and now I can twist these on.
I’m twisting this one on the power or the hot wire I’m going to twist this one on the neutral just like that and lastly I’m going to twist this one on the ground now that all three of these wire nuts have been twisted on to the electrical wires.
I’m going to use some electrical tape to tape all three of them together and this is definitely important.
This way you ensure that the wire nuts don’t get twisted off, they don’t get separated or anything like that. I’m literally just going to use some electrical tape. I’m going to start with just a little piece to twist the wire nuts together.
I’m just going to try and get them all all together just like that and now I can just twist this electrical tape on and this is I would. It’s not necessary it’s definitely optional but I would highly recommend this step.
I’m just going to twist this electrical tape on just like that and I’m going to give it one really good final twist before we go and turn the power back on to these wires.
I think that is good enough so now I’m going to head back down to the electrical panel to turn the power back on to these wires and now you are going to turn the power back on and that’s literally all that there is to it.
There is now power going to these electrical wires and they have been safely capped off it’s literally that simple.
