About Us

Last Updated: Jan 31st, 2012

The NWT Soccer Association is a 100% volunteer-run organization and is the governing body for all soccer activities in the NWT.  Over the last decade, soccer has become one of the most popular sports around the world and is currently the largest Territorial Sports Organization (TSO) in the NWT.

Our biggest responsibility and focus involves the grassroots development of soccer in the North.

Regular NWT Soccer Association activities include:

  • Providing clinics to develop coaches, players and referees;
  • Supporting recreational leagues and tournaments;
  • Organizing summer camps;
  • Administering the sport (policy development, dispute resolution, corporate sponsorship, marketing, etc).

In addition to grassroots soccer, the NWT Soccer Association also supports skill and fitness development of our elite soccer players at the High-Performance level through events such as the Arctic Winter Games, Club Nationals and the Canada and Western Canada Summer Games.

Our base funding is provided by Sport North through an annual application process.   As soccer is continuing to grow in popularity, the NWT Soccer Association does a significant amount of fundraising, and benefits from corporate support from Northwestel, First Air, Kellett Communications and other generous contributors.

Key challenges in the future include additional fundraising, constant recruitment of new volunteers and lobbying for the creation of a permanent indoor soccer facility in the NWT.

Anyone interested in getting involved in soccer can contact any member of the NWTSA Executive on the Board tab under 'About Us'.
